A Web Space for Folk Music - 10 Years Later

Project

Musician Olenka Krakus released the new song 'Moose Jaw' on, September 4, 2021. "Written and revised over a decade, this song explores the darkness, longing, and regret of a forgotten loner." This release brought me back to memories of working on Olenka's website 10 years ago. I was amazed to see the original website design still being used today. I reflected on that experience and where we have come since then. It was such a pleasure to walk down memory lane while listening to the new song.

I worked with musician and artist Olenka to create a custom web space in 2011. This space is an art piece as much as a promotional website for Olenka's music projects.

Process

Olenka and I would visit at her apartment in London and work through the website development and design together. Page by page, the intention and impact of each design element was considered.

I remember the stillness of those afternoons, where we would drink tea and talk about art and design. Olenka provided the art, imagery, and text, and I would code them into place with HTML, CSS, Javascript, and PHP coding.

Results

The hand-coded website is still active today. From 2011 to 2021, the website design continues to complement Olenka's artwork.
