The Landbook is a course workbook for ECE 234, Land-Based Play and Co-Learning through Etuaptmumk/Two-Eyed Seeing in Early Childhood Education, developed with the Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellness at Humber Polytechnic in Toronto, Canada.
This Landbook is a guide for engaging, co-learning and collaborating on and with the Land and from each other for the benefit of all. The contents reflect the local geography, four seasons and teachings from walking on and learning with the Land in the Humber Arboretum.
The Landbook is supported by the Humber Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellness, Humber Indigenous Education and Engagement, local and regional Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Holders and Mentors, the Humber Arboretum and Centre for Urban Ecology, the Humber Child Development Centre, and for financial support from the Lawson Foundation’s Outdoor Play Strategy 2.0.
The Land Book aims to provide an immersive and educational experience that respects and reflects Indigenous perspectives while being engaging and accessible to a broad audience. The visual and structural elements draw inspiration from Field Notes journals and children's interactive Nature Trails books. This combination ensures the content is engaging and evokes a childlike sense of exploration and wonder.
