Report Design for “Naming as an Exploration into Curriculum Development in First Nation Education Systems” with the First Nations with Schools Collective (FNWSC)
This report looks at incorporating learnings about the traditional practice of Naming into the curriculum of First Nations education and lifelong learning systems. It summarizes the findings of Indigenous curriculum creators and concludes with their recommendations for incorporating Naming into the curriculum.
The First Nations with Schools Collective (FNWSC) approached me in September 2022 to design their report, “Naming as an Exploration into Curriculum Development in First Nation Education Systems”.
My goals for the design were to:
Create a report design utilizing existing brand elements - such as the colour palette and text style. The primary colours of yellow, blue, and red remind us of the primary school classroom.
Design to current accessibility standards.
Organize the content to be comfortable to read and understand. Content is divided into parts and sections, and select content is organized into coloured boxes.
Integrate playfulness and joy - as the report talks about primary schools. Happy silhouettes were added throughout the report and updated with additional Indigenous elements such as long braids and ribbon skirts.
Integrating the Traditional Practice of Naming into the Curriculum.
The First Nations with Schools Collective presents the first in a series of research papers for First Nations curriculum creators and developers. This report looks at incorporating learnings about the traditional practice of Naming into the curriculum of First Nations education and lifelong learning systems. It summarizes the findings of Indigenous curriculum creators and concludes with their recommendations for incorporating Naming into the curriculum.
